I love vintage, and I love jewelry! I love the stories behind it, the weird places that it is discovered and then adding my own twist to it. There something exciting about finding a unique shape, amazing texture or cool color and envisioning creating something wearable and contemporary. To me, jewelry is art, and being able to create it makes me feel like a mechanic, artist and architect all in one. And I enjoy seeing people appreciate my art.
I started this jewelry habit when I was very young. All of my grandmothers all had fascinating pieces. Grandma Bessy's room had a big vanity with pearls strung from the mirror. Little cute glass boxes, chest of drawers and makeup powder puffs everywhere...I found all the "expensive" costume jewelry at the bottom of her powder puff cases. It constantly felt like a treasure hunt in her house and I think that's where I got my hunting extinct from...to find treasures in weird places.
My Grandma Jan was the first lady I ever thought to have the best jewelry styling...Picture a wild white hair woman in boho funky clothes and a piece of silver or turquoise on every finger, she always has a stack of silver bangles that have the perfect weight and make the best sound, and at least 2 or 3 necklaces on. She would send me packages on every birthday and Christmas to Minnesota with some sort of special piece of jewelry. One of the first pieces I remember was a vintage gold locket that she found and got my name engraved in it. I still have it. Everything given to me from her is always specific, thought out and has a story to go with it. I want to give YOMEGZ customers the same feeling when they acquire my pieces.
YOMEGZ jewelry parts are all handpicked by me and then handmade into your unique piece, by me.
